Koh Kradan and Koh Mook – Paradise Regained

Koh Mook – Sunrise

If you’re someone like me, then you probably hate crowded places and crave to visit places that are less frequented by travellers. It rains tourists in Thailand for the most part of the year, even if you were to visit during the non-peak season you probably might end up amongst a sea of people, if not an ocean.

In 2017, when I was looking to visit in Thailand, I was searching for something quiet to spend a week doing nothing. After hours of search, I came up with a small list of islands and right away Koh Kradan stood out for me. Quite a small island with nothing to do, perfect!

The entire island is around 3 kilometres in dia, it’s tiny. But the number of tourists that stay here is also nothing as compared to other parts of Thailand. There are a few tour boats that bring tourists from the morning till 2 pm or so, but that defeats the purpose of coming to Koh Kradan if you ask me. The whole idea of visiting Koh Kradan is to relax, have good food, be close to nature, enjoy the beaches, snorkel with the fishes and so on. The place I stayed was Paradise Lost which I highly recommend. I stayed there for a good 3 days before hopping on another Long Tail boat and leaving for Koh Mook.

There are 3 beaches at Koh Kradan are the Main beach, the Ao Niang beach and the Sunset beach. All of them are close-by so take turns in visiting them. The main beach is the best for swimming and snorkelling as far as I can say.

In comparison, Koh Mook is a bigger island… more tourists, more things to do, more options for food and wine.

This time around, I stayed at Koh Mook Nurse house, a much smaller place in comparison to Paradise Lost on the other island, in the middle of Fishermens Quarters. But I liked it. It won’t get you mad likes on Social Media for sure, but the people running this place are quite friendly. Emerald Cave would be hands down the biggest attraction in this island. If you feel a bit adventurous, rent a kayak and head towards Emerald Cave. I’m sure that would be something to remember for a very long time.

Charlie Beach Resort is where you rent Kayaks. If you don’t feel too adventurous, not a problem. Look for private boat operators to take you around the island.

Another fun activity to do would be to rent a scooter and drive around.

To conclude, if you want a few days away from craziness you should consider these two islands for what they offer.
